ABS Technology is a patented technology developed exclusively by Septodont’s team of researchers and scientists. For 10 years they worked diligently to present the purest form of a synthetic tricalcium silicate
Septodont’s Active Biosilicate Technology eliminates impurities, while biocompatible calcium silicate produces favorable tissue response and limits adverse reactions. The sealer’s bioactive properties trigger calcium ion release for increased mineralization, and the alkaline pH and airtight seal inhibit bacteria growth over time.
Septodont controls every step of material processing, starting from pure raw materials and ending with C3S as the main ingredient of its proprietary formulation. C3S is the purest form of calcium silicate. ABS Technology has a high tricalcium silicate concentration which then offers an elevated pH with continued ion release.
The first innovation to incorporate ABS (Active Biosilicate Technology) was the introduction of Biodentine in 2010. Biodentine is unique in that it has 9 indications. (show image of indications from lit.)
5 in the crown and 9 in the root – (Next to image)
Scientific studies and clinical studies over the last decade (over 1,000) have proven Biodentine’s efficacy.
In 2022 Biodentine XP was launched and incorporated a new mixing system complete with cartridge for easy placement in the mouth along with a consistent mix and viscosity.
1. Outstanding Sealing Properties
Lower risk of bacterial infiltration >>> Reduces the risk of secondary decay
2. No Shrinkage
Less fluids movement inside the dentin tubules >>> Eliminates post-operative pain
3. Cell Regeneration Promotion
Supports pulp healing and triggers dentin mineralization >>> Avoids unnecessary endo
4. Antimicrobial Properties
Calcium Hydroxide release preventing bacterial growth >>> Reduces the risk of secondary decay
In 2016 ABS was introduced into a bioceramic sealer– BioRoot RCS (root canal sealer). This innovation brought single cone technology to the forefront as a simple cold technique and was introduced as an easier obturation technique that enabled general practitioners to add RCT (root canal therapy) into their practices.
Needing an a more efficient mixing and placement for BioRoot RCS – BioRoot Flow was introduced in 2022 – incorporating an easy to use pre-mixed application.
1. Outstanding Sealing Properties
Lower risk of bacterial infiltration >>> Tight seal – no need to use warm technique
2. No Shrinkage
Maintains the dentin/BioRoot/gutta interface integrity >>> Tight seal – no need to use warm technique
3. Cell Regeneration Promotion
Supports peri-apical healing >>> Reduces the risk of RCT failure
4. Antimicrobial Properties
Calcium Hydroxide release preventing bacterial growth >>> Reduces the risk of RCT failure
